Golovkin fought his way to the top of world boxing from humble beginnings, essentially nothing. Now he’s finally got a super fight.
It’s been a long road for Gennady Golovkin but come September 16th he’ll find himself in a worldwide boxing event when he squares off against Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.
‘GGG’ hailing from Kazakhstan made the move to the United States a number of years back and hasn’t looked back since.
Cutting through the middleweight division with sledgehammer fist knockouts, bit by bit, he earned himself a reputation as one of the most feared men in the sport.
It might seem like it happened over night but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Golovkin turned professional eleven years ago in 2006 and at the age of 35 this year will finally get that super-fight that he’s been chasing for years.
One fan has put together a truly wonderful video titled ‘From nothing comes a king’ in what will likely get any boxing fan excited:

September 16th can’t come fast enough.
Golovkin has shown some chinks in the armour in recent times, too – which makes the Canelo fight all the more intriguing.
A 50/50 fight if ever there was one.
