George Groves Confirms Painful Injury Following World Title Win

Londoner George Groves confirms a nasty injury that he sustained in his world title win that makes the victory even more impressive.

Last weekend UK boxer George Groves became WBA ‘Super’ super-middleweight champion when he fought Fedor Chudinov and stopped him inside the distance – in what proved to be a thrilling bout to watch.

Both men gave it their all but it was Groves’ will to win more than anything that proved the difference, unleashing a ferocious combination of punches nearly 50 seconds long to close the show on the undercard of Errol Spence vs Kell Brook in Sheffield.

It was Groves’ fourth attempt at a world title in total, showing incredible persistence and determination to stay on track to realize his dream.

Not many ever get one shot at a world title, let alone four, but that has to be testament to Groves’ spirit and determination surely.

So much spirit in fact, that after the fight it has now been revealed by the man himself today that he suffered a broken jaw early on:

Fighting with a broken jaw for a number of rounds and then closing the show like he did makes the win ever more impressive really.

He has plenty of options out there next up, but a rematch and world title unification with James DeGale is the big one being tipped to happen at the moment.
