Hughie Fury Pulls Out Of World Title Fight With Joseph Parker

Fury Set For IBF

Hughie Fury pulls out of his WBO heavyweight world title shot against Joseph Parker in New Zealand it has been revealed.

Boxing fans have been dealt a blow this weekend.

It has been reported widely that Hughie Fury has sustained an injury that will prevent him from travelling to New Zealand next month to fight Joseph Parker.

The fight was due to take place in a couple of weeks time on May 6th but injury will prevent the 22 year old British fighter from challenging for the belt just yet.

It is not known the extent of the injury to Fury at this time, but an official statement from Parker’s Promoter Duco Events read the following:

“Duco Events was today notified by the World Boxing Organisation that mandatory No 1 challenger Hughie Fury has an injury, and will be unable to challenge champion Joseph Parker for the Heavyweight Title on May 6 in Auckland.”

Disappointing news for all.

It promised to be an interesting heavyweight title match up between two of the younger heavyweights coming through in the modern era at the moment.

Parker last defended his belt against Andy Ruiz via majority decision in December of 2016.

Hughie Fury’s last appearance in a boxing ring came in April of 2016 when he defeated Fred Kassi on points in London.
