The countdown is well and truly on for this weekend’s WBO junior-middleweight battle and ahead of the fight you can catch the Smith vs Canelo weigh in live stream video below.
The Smith vs Canelo matchup is known within the boxing industry as potentially a cracking fight, despite perhaps the American public not been very familiar with who champion Smith is.
Both men like to have a fight as they say, so I’m expecting some compelling viewing this weekend to be honest.
It might not be the fight that everyone wanted for Canelo Alvarez mind you, but if Canelo were to look impressive here and stop Smith inside the distance, surely a big fight with a middleweight champion will unfold next up in 2017 or God forbid, a long awaited clash with Gennady Golovkin (that fans are blue in the face from calling for at this stage).
Going into this weekend’s fight Smith’s Ring Magazine trainer of the year Joe Gallagher from the UK has said that if Canelo does not make weight – that Liam Smith will not fight.
All eyes are on Canelo’s weight making ability accordingly, also considering the fact he’s a massive 154lbs athlete who cuts considerable weight before a fight.
He did look a bit gaunt in pictures during the week in Texas, which some have commented on in terms of Canelo struggling at the weight.
But this is the usual process for Canelo at this stage at the 154lbs limit, nothing I’d pay too much attention to in fairness. If he were to miss weight however I’d be very interested to see what would happen.
I couldn’t in all honesty see the fight getting pulled if that happened. But you never know in boxing.
The weigh in is due to take place later today at 3.30pm ET in the US, 12.30pm PT, which is approximately 8.30pm in the UK and Ireland.
