Stevenson vs Williams Jr proved to be an explosive encounter for the WBC light-heavyweight title in Quebec.
Champion Stevenson (28-1-23KO) ultimately knocked Williams Jr out in the fourth round to hold onto the belt, but the fight had plenty of gun slinging in the short time it lasted up to that point.
Stevenson’s big southpaw left hand proved to be deadly right from the get go, dropping Williams Jr in the very first round of the bout.
Williams Jr knew that he had to fight fire with fire against Stevenson to have any chance in the fight and as the early rounds proceeded he stood toe to toe with Stevenson at times, having some success, but ultimately this strategy proved to be his undoing in the fourth round.
What ensued was a highlight reel knockout from a man who now will be expected to take on a big name in the light-heavyweight division next up.
If Stevenson could fight the winner early next year of the upcoming mega fight between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward in November, that would likely satisfy many fight fans.
