It’s a part two that was mentioned quite a bit in 2015, but could Khan beat Garcia in a potential 2016 rematch if it were to happen?

Danny Garcia’s 4th round TKO of Amir Khan seems like a lifetime ago when the two fought originally at 140lbs back in July 2012, but it’s concussive exploits are still fresh in the mind of some (certainly Amir Khan fans), in what was a torrid night for ‘King Khan’.
It was an evening the former world champion almost surely would like to forget, or at least have a chance at setting the record straight on.
Garcia has remained undefeated since then (currently 31-0, 18KO) and like Khan, has made the move up to welterweight, but it could be rationally argued that despite the conclusive defeat back in 2012, as things stand at the start of 2016, that in fact it is Khan’s boxing stock that sits best our of the two in the boxing world.
Both Khan’s in ring merit and holdings within the sport have been solidified in recent times with five straight victories over the three and half year period since his bout with Garcia, including two impressive points shut out victories (despite what his critics might say) against Luiz Collazo and Devon Alexander, namely.
2015 though was perhaps a quieter year for Khan than he would have liked, having chased and missed out on the all elusive big money fight with the (currently) retired Floyd Mayweather.
A big domestic world title showdown with IBF champion and long term rival Kell Brook in the UK is on the cards for Wembley stadium this year, but if that were not to come to fruition or indeed after a potential such mega bout with Khan, an intriguing fight I’d like to see the Bolton man in would be with his former conqueror Garcia.
It’s surely a fight that would sell, given the familiarity with both protagonists by the boxing fraternity and in Khan’s case, wider main stream attention, and with Khan aged 29 currently aged Garcia aged 27 as things stand, both guys are arguably in the prime of their professional prizefighting fighting careers.
Couple this with the fact both competitors are riding decent winning streaks at the moment – you’ve got some genuine credibility behind a possible showdown in 2016, if it were to take place.
Of course Danny Garcia first has the stiff and by no means easy test of facing Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero on January 23rd on Premier Boxing Champions.
However, should he come through that victorious and if Khan were continue in winning fashion this year, perhaps a rematch could come to reality in later 2016? I’d certainly watch it.
