“Golovkin vs Lemieux – Let’s make it NOW!” were the words etched across on Gennady Golovkin’s most recent tweet on his Twitter account.

“Not ‘in the future” or “down the road’!” were the words followed, along with tagging boxer David Lemieux, promoter Oscar De La Hoya, and HBO Boxing.

The tweet comes a day after David Lemieux’s unanimous decision win for the vacant IBF Middleweight title against Frenchman Hassan N’Dam. Lemieux knocked down the N’Dam a total of four times throughout the fight, showcasing his extraordinary punching power.

After Golovkin’s win against Willie Monroe Jr. on May 16th, Golovkin announced that he would be fighting again within a couple of months. Golovkin is looking to unify the weight class. Naturally, Miguel Cotto, who is the current WBC and The Ring Magazine Middleweight Champion, is an obvious choice as Golovkin’s next opponent.

Another opponent that fans would be eager to watch GGG go against is Canelo Alvarez, who is fresh off his KO victory against James Kirkland on May 9th.

However, there are rumors that a Cotto vs. Alvarez fight is set for November. While there has not been any official confirmation, it is most likely that Golovkin will go after the winner of the fight.

According to Golovkin’s promoter, Tom Loeffler, neither Cotto nor Alvarez have agreed to fight Golovkin. Loeffler is awaiting an agreement from Cotto, stating that the winner of his November bout will be Golovkin’s next opponent.

But, until then, Golovkin is searching for his next opponent as he desperately wants to unify the Middleweight division.

With that in mind, it seems that Lemieux is the most obvious choice at the moment.
