De La Hoya Delighted Ronda Rousey Was On Ring Magazine Cover

Recently mixed martial arts and UFC female fighting starlet Ronda Rousey appeared on the front cover of boxing’s most prestigious print magazine The Ring. It caused quite the stir among some boxing fans, but Golden Boy Promotions head honcho who’s company owns the magazine, believes it was a very positive thing.

Speaking in an interview with Page2Sports, De La Hoya commented on Rousey’s recent appearance in Ring Magazine:

“I think it’s wonderful, I think she deserves it and obviously it opens the doors for women in boxing. We’ve created so much attention with it world-wide, which has given Ring Magazine attention it’s never had in it’s existence. So now what do we do with it? How do we capitalize with her on the cover?”

He went on to further hint at big plans for female boxing, and even at Rousey crossing over into a potential boxing match one day:

“I have some big ideas for women’s boxing. We have something brewing and this is obviously the beginning. This has created a lot of buzz within the boxing industry, so mission accomplished. We’ve discussed it with her (Rousey) and obviously whenever she’s ready to step into the ring as a boxer, then obviously Golden Boy Promotions will be right there with her.”
