Rapid punching Lucas Matthysse of Argentina is set to return to the ring against Ukraine’s Victor Postol on October 3 at the Stub Hub Center for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title that Danny Garcia relinquished last month.

The undefeated Danny Garcia is the 140-pound champion according to the Transnational Boxing Ranking Board, who will be fighting Paulie Malignaggi this Saturday on ESPN at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) registered three wins after a unanimous decision loss over Danny Garcia in 2013. He’s looking to continue his 3-fight winning streak against undefeated Victor Postol.

He defeated John Molina Jr. and Roberto Ortiz inside the distance and a majority decision over hard hitting Ruslan Provodnikov in his last fight.

Victor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) is the mandatory challenger for Garcia’s WBC 140-pound title. Garcia instead of defending his title, chose to face the brash talking Malignaggi this Saturday, because of a weight issue.

Postol got a decision victory over Jake Giuriceo in his last fight. He also came back from a slow start over Selcuk Ayden and scored an 11th round knockout.

“Viktor is a tremendous boxer-puncher, and we give him a helluva shot to beat Lucas Matthysse,” said Bob Arum.

However, Matthysse has different a view of his opponent:

“Postol is tall like John Molina, but Molina came to fight. Postol, I don’t think so.” said Matthysse.

“He moves his left very well, fights at a distance, seems fast on his feet, and has excellent head movement.

Against Aydin he got off to a slow start but then dominated and got the knockout. He’s good, but I’m confident that I’ll be the WBC World Champion.”
