This weekend firstly sees the much talked about Ebanie Bridges vs Shannon Courtenay fight in the UK which really has shocked in terms of the popularity the fight has attracted.
A good scrap to look forward to in fairness.
Both quite aggressive and come forward styles.
Also on the card is the UK’s Savannah Marshall who takes on a late replacement who has been mentioned might even be a bit tougher than the original opponent.
Marshall is a tall girl with good boxing ability and power (9-0-7 KO). The big thing here is if she were to go 10-0 this weekend a logical fight against America’s Claressa Shields could be in play next.
A rematch too of an amateur rivalry and at that weight division, a very good fight that would generate more buzz again for women’s boxing.
We don’t get into fight predictions on here at BNAV anymore. All we’ve tried to do is call things as we see them and be genuine. Perhaps a bit too deep thinking on here at times. Boxing only moving forward.
Two excellent fights potentially this weekend though.
It’s the fights that count at the end of the day. It has always been about the fights.
Women’s boxing is no different in this regard. If the best fights can be made later in the year there is no reason why it can’t do well for the female fighters involved.
Nobody gets it right all the time but all we can say to all these ladies at the weekend is may the best fighters win.
If the action delivers, the momentum for women’s boxing will be quite strong with opportunities to make genuinely sought after fights around the mid point of the year.
