Herring boxed on the outside well and Frampton admitted afterwards that he found it hard to get on the inside.

Great respect between the two boxers was shown afterwards and typical excellent humility in defeat from Frampton. A credit to himself and the sport of boxing.

Frampton announced his retirement from boxing following the bout.

A superb career as one of Ireland’s great professional boxing world champions saw him become a two-weight champion.

A tenure in the paid ranks that included some thrilling nights with great opponents like Kiko Martinez, Leo Santa Cruz, Scott Quigg, Nonito Donaire, Josh Warrington to name but a few.

A professional career that went from 2009 to 2021.

Some of those fights in Belfast in particular against Martinez, some of the very special, magical boxing nights and atmospheres for those lucky enough to be there.

Moments that only big fight nights in boxing can muster up.

Unbeatable and unexplainable.

Frampton and his loyal following were masters of them. Belfast boxing fans some of the best in the world, without doubt.

Through all the ups and downs of life, for anyone, thinking back to being at some of those Frampton vs Martinez fights in Belfast. They remind you why you love this special sport.

Good luck to Frampton and his family on the rest of life. What a career.

In his prime, the man from Tiger’s Bay was an electric, brilliant and fearless fighter.

One that won’t be forgotten:
