Going into the fight tonight undefeated boxing star Ryan Garcia had predicted Canelo Alvarez would win in the third round.
His prediction proved correct.
After the fight some have been debating where Canelo sits in terms of best Mexican fighters of all-time lists.
Always mythical lists of course but ones that fans seem to enjoy.
Mexico has produced arguably some of the best ever fighters in the sport of boxing’s history.
Speaking post-fight on the DAZN commentary team Garcia said:
“What I feel is like you have to give him the whole aspect, not just Mexican. He’s a great fighter in all aspects of it. You know what I mean. When you say Floyd Mayweather you don’t just say the best black fighter, you say the best fighter. That’s the thing. Canelo is a great fighter to be honest.”
Certainly tonight was an easy night’s work for Canelo but it has to be noted how he came back from defeat to Floyd Mayweather years ago to where he is today has been commendable.
He has improved considerably.
Now people want to see him there with the likes of the Charlo brothers, Benavidez and more.
Next up on May 8th will be a serious challenger in the form of Billy Joe Saunders.
