Canelo and Boxing Trainer React To Winning Best Fighter and Trainer of 2019

2019 proved to be a hugely successful year for boxing’s current biggest star Canelo Alvarez.

The Mexican fighting machine ended the year by moving up to 175 lbs and defeating feared puncher Sergey Kovalev with an awesome knockout.

2020 promises much for Alvarez again as he currently reigns in many people’s opinion as the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

The Boxing Writers Association of America have now formally confirmed Alvarez as their 2019 Fighter of the Year.

Here is what Canelo has had to say (Spanish to English translation):

“It is an honor to receive the BWAA fighter prize of the year but it represents an even greater pride to do it by your side @caneloteam. Many thanks to all who voted; Let’s go for more.”

His trainer Eddie Reynoso also won the writer’s 2019 boxing trainer of the year.

Here’s what the coach had to say on the award (Spanish to English translation):

“Thanks Boxing Writers. The 2019 Eddie Futch award is mine. Thanks to all who have always supported me, who have trusted me, I am very happy and proud — a privilege to be Mexican and put boxing at the top as a boxing coach!”

Time will tell what fights 2020 and indeed the next decade has in store for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
