Conor McGregor Reveals A Lofty Boxing Goal and 3 Possible Boxing Opponents

January is typically a slow month in the fight game but one Conor McGregor making his return to the UFC this month seems to have drummed up a lot of noise.

McGregor fought in professional boxing just once when he was stopped by Floyd Mayweather a few years ago in Las Vegas.

A fight he surprised a lot of people in by winning some rounds against the former pound for pound number one.

Indeed, McGregor comes from a boxing background originally in Dublin, Ireland.

His amateur boxing career was what started him in combat sports long before he made the move to mixed martial arts or become a UFC champion.

Now, McGregor has gone back to his boxing routes and linked up with his old boxing coach and legendary Irish boxing trainer Phil Sutcliffe in Dublin.

Speaking at the press conference for his latest UFC fight McGregor revealed he’s actually far from done with the sport of boxing:

“I would love that Floyd rematch. I thought I done very well. I thought with some slight adjustments I would have done even better. Now I think I would I would take the victory. With Manny Pacquiao, the talks are ongoing.”

He added:

“For me an aspiration of mine also is to win a boxing world title. For me that would be a phenomenal feather in the cap. Something I’d look to achieve in the future and something I will achieve. I’m back with my boxing coaches in Crumlin Boxing Club where I learned how to throw a punch. They’ve sat me down on my punches and cleaned up somethings. I’m feeling very confident in my boxing abilities. It would be an honor to get back into boxing. Who knows, maybe I can kick start Zuffa Boxing if we can get there.”

McGregor also revealed this week that he’s still considering Paulie Malignaggi for a possible boxing match.

So between a Mayweather rematch, a Pacquiao fight and a Malignaggi fight — McGregor’s boxing career doesn’t appear to be over just yet.
