Deontay Wilder Reacts To Anthony Joshua Winning Andy Ruiz Jr Rematch

WBC heavyweight champion of the world Deontay Wilder was a keen spectator of this weekend’s IBF, WBO and WBA title fight between Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua.

Wilder knows that ultimately, for him or the winner (Joshua) to truly prove who the best heavyweight in the world is, they’ll have to face one another next year.

Of course, one Tyson Fury will also want to prove his claim to that when he rematches Wilder in the early new year.

With Ruiz out of the picture (at least for now), we’re now left with the big three again of Wilder, Joshua and Fury regarding who most believe to be the best heavyweights in boxing today.

Indeed, if they all fight next year 2020 could well be the year that the sport of boxing really returns to the mainstream pantheon of sports.

Speaking to EsNews YouTube (hat tip) on what he thought of this weekend’s fight here’s what WBC champion Wilder had to say on the whole event:

Interesting stuff all round there and very honest from Wilder.

Ruiz admitting to not training hard for the fight in the aftermath was a bit disappointing in fairness.

Particularly considering the size of the opportunity that was there.

That said, he can still come again and no doubt will once he refocuses and comes in lighter for his fights.

He had lost an awful lot of weight to his credit in the early part of his training camp for the fight but by all accounts when he went out to Saudi Arabia he put it all back again with lavish eating sprees including indulging in fast food with Saudi Arabian royalty.

All in all, a great weekend for the sport of boxing and kudos to all involved.
