Boxing World React To Golovkin’s Knockout Of Steve Rolls

Golovkin's knockout Of Steve Rolls

While Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin may no longer be in his prime this weekend he showed that his ferocious punching power is still more than enough to keep him in the mix with the big dogs of the middleweight division.

An apex predator in the squared circle, ‘GGG’ copped a few heavy shots himself on the night but his patience and ultimately his bone crunching left hand ended the show in some fashion at MSG.

Here’s what happened at Madison Square Garden:

A very interesting angle to throw that type of shot from to be fair.

An almost inverted left hook of sorts.

Quality.

Golovkin still has more than enough boxing skill and experience in his locker to fight at the top level for another few years.

He’s always had the skills in his locker really.

He just seemed to rely on his power and bulldog opponents more and more in the later part of his pro career.

If he could go back to boxing behind the jab and being the master of controlling distance and closing down fighters like he can be, there’s no reason he can’t put on plenty of high level performances between now and retirement.

Golovkin’s knockout of Steve Rolls last night was the first fight of his new six-fight deal with streaming platform DAZN.

So expect the other five fights to take Golovkin’s career at least up to 2021.

The fourth round knockout this weekend likely sets up a trilogy fight with Canelo Alvarez later this year.

Alvarez recently defeated Danny Jacobs.

One would imagine negotiations for a part three could very well start on Monday morning by both fighters’ respective teams.
