Usyk Heavyweight Debut Officially Confirmed For May 25th

The long wait regarding former undisputed cruiserweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk’s next move is now over.

As expected, he’ll move up to heavyweight.

He’ll take on Carlos Takam on May 25th at Oxon Hill, Maryland, USA. The undercard announcement is expected to come next week at some point.

Certainly a decent first opponent for Usyk in terms of durability and a gauge to see how his punching power will be in the heavyweight division.

Takam is known for being as tough as nails and gave heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua a heck of a battle not long ago.

Granted he got knocked out by Dereck Chisora after that but on the balance of things, for his first fight in the heavyweight division this will at least show us how Usyk’s power is in the weight class.

Boxing skills-wise he’ll obviously be a massive favorite though.

Earlier today we spoke about on here if Usyk could turn out to be the heavyweight division’s dark horse.

Obviously it’s early days but fair play to him to now committing to the move and getting his opponent and date pencilled in at least.

Time will tell how it goes but all in all, exciting news to have one of boxing’s best pound for pound fighters now in the mix in boxing’s most exciting division.

A time where once again casual sports fans are talking about a division that was once regarded as having the most popular crown in all of sports.

Being heavyweight champion of the world, that is.
