Manchester’s Anthony Crolla is under no illusion about the size of the task he has on his hands with pound for pound top dog Lomachenko next up.
The two face off on April 12th and although Crolla is a former world champion and is as tough and as well conditioned as they come, he still comes into the bout as a big underdog such is the sheer brilliance of boxing professor Lomachenko.
The Ukraine sweet science wizard has wowed the boxing world since turning pro in recent years through his unique style and ability to out think his opponents with matrix-like beat downs.
Crolla is not intimidated by the challenge however. Speaking on Sky Sports News Crolla said:
“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but the motivation for me is to attach my name to one of the biggest upsets in British boxing history without a doubt. I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn there. As a boxing fan, as somebody who loves the sport, who lives for the sport — that’s huge motivation for me.”
He went on to say:
“I won’t be in awe going over there (LA). None whatsoever. Like I say, I’ve worked hard and put myself through in it in this camp. I’ve worked far too hard to let that happen. So I’m going over there confident that I can do that (win)”
He concluded:
“Of course there is a chance (to win). Listen, boxing, there’s two fighters in the ring. Like in any sport you need a bit of luck. But I’ve worked very hard to get as lucky as what I can get on the night. But I’m not relying on that. I’m going in there with a good game plan and I’m in the best shape of my career.”
