Leonard Ellerbe Speaks On Floyd Mayweather and Errol Spence Sparring

This weekend sees two of the sport’s pound for pound talents Errol Spence Jr and Mikey Garcia throw down in Texas.

A fight that has been hugely anticipated by the boxing community specifically whether it be fight fights or even the WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder.

The closer the bout has gotten more people seem to give Garcia a chance to win despite the fact he’s stepping up in two weight classes.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe doesn’t feel that way however.

He’s backing Spence to get the job done.

Around six years ago Ellerbe brought Spence in for a Floyd Mayweather training camp and the apparent sparring session the two had has become famous in itself with many speculating that Spence gave Floyd a beating.

Speaking on the spar ahead of this weekend’s fight, Ellerbe told reporters in an open media scrum that:

“Just actually seeing him (Spence) work in the gym. He worked with Floyd in a training camp about six years ago. I know what he’s capable of bringing to the table.”

He added:

“What I found out first hand — you’ve got to have some s*** to keep him off of you. I’ve watched him and Floyd in camp and it gets no better than fighting the best guy and he gave Floyd some great work. (On if Spence gave Floyd a black eye) No. No. No. It’s not about that. Real cats don’t discuss what goes on. Like the details in camp. He’s a tremendous fighter and he gave Floyd some of the best work he’s ever had.”

He later added went on to say:

“When I brought Errol in for camp we had like five killers that Floyd was working with and I felt bad because it was like five championship fights that Floyd had to work back to back to back. With Errol that s*** was a fight. He don’t approach it like that, he’s one of the most humble, respectful, humble guys out there. He just comes in and does his thing. The dude can go.”
