Errol Spence Gives Three Reasons Why Fighting Pacquiao Makes Sense

Errol Spence Jr is gearing up for a huge fight with Mikey Garcia later this month in a bout that will see lightweight champion Garcia move up in two entire weight categories to challenge IBF title holder Spence in his home State of Texas.

One fight on his radar if he wins however is against Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.

PacMan recently won an impressive points decision against the much younger Adrien Broner back in January and has now positioned himself in line for a meaningful next up in 2019.

Speaking to the media in an open press scrum it’s a fight that Spence says he’s very interested in:

“That’s a no-brainer. He’s a future Hall of Famer. He’s proved his record.”

He went on to say:

“He’s a humongous draw. Hes getting older. He has a few fights left in him. There’s no telling who he might fight, he might retire.”

He added:

“Pacquiao is a really big name. He’s a crossover fighter. He’s an icon on the sport. Just to get the fight with him and beat him, that kind of would be a passing of the torch fight in a sense.”

Spence must first get through a tough test in Mikey Garcia on March 16th this month mind you.

One he’s not guaranteed to win at all either, in a bout that will see the coming together of two undefeated pound for pound rated stars in the sport of boxing today.

As for Pacquiao, he is still awaiting news on if a Floyd Mayweather rematch will happen or if a possible showdown with Keith Thurman could be on the table for him instead later this year.

There has also been speculation that Pacquiao might not even fight again so time will tell if a Spence fight is a realistic possibility.
