Promoter of Anthony Joshua, Eddie Hearn has been going to bat with former undisputed heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis a lot in the media in recent times.
The beef between the two stems from Lewis been critical of Joshua not taking on either Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder as of yet in his career.
The two other recognized best heavyweight fighters in world boxing at the moment.
Speaking at the Joshua vs Jarrell Miller press conference to members of the media afterwards Hearn admitted he’s fed up with Lewis at this stage:
“I’m not talking about Lennox Lewis. I don’t like that man anymore. No because listen — you can’t preach what he’s preaching — he’s employed by the PBC (Premier Boxing Champions).”
The PBC referring to a rival organization to Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing in the sport of boxing.
Headed by Al Haymon.
Hearn added that Lewis even tried to sign Anthony Joshua early on in his pro career before he joined Hearn’s Matchroom stable:
“More importantly he tried to sign Anthony Joshua (before us). There’s a lot of history — you don’t know. Let me tell you something now. After 22 fights he just fought for the Commonwealth title, Lennox Lewis.”
Anthony Joshua has certainly achieved more at 22 fights than Lewis has but at the end of the day the proof will come when Joshua retires.
Then, and only then, will boxing fans be able to compare records and opponents faced over both fighter’s careers.
