Chris Eubank Jr Finally Reveals Reason For The Adam Booth Split

Chris Eubank Jr is gearing up for a big fight with James DeGale later this month at the 02 Arena in London and will have a full-time trainer in his corner for the first time in a very long time for one of his professional fights.

At one point his father, Chris Eubank senior organized for respected UK trainer Adam Booth (former trainer to Andy Lee, George Groves and David Haye) to try a trial period out training his son.

I didn’t work out but the reason for the split was never known.

Until now.

Speaking to Kugan Cassius of IFL TV Eubank admitted it was the way that Booth didn’t stuck up for him in a sparring session when sparring partners were not happy with him wanting only 30 second breaks in between rounds.

On a former sparring session:

“I said, well, it’s my gym. You’ve come down here (sparring partners in the past) to spar me so respect the rules of a 30 seconds rest (between rounds) and they were like, no. I said — there’s the door mate.”

He added:

“Him and his trainer left and Adam Booth (Eubank Jr’s trainer at the time) left with them. He followed them out the door and didn’t come back. A trainer is supposed to stick by their fighter in my opinion. Even if I was wrong, which I don’t think I was, even if I was wrong Adam should have stayed in the gym with me and not been upset because I chased away a sparring partner. So seeing him do that made me think, okay, well this isn’t the right guy for me. We’re obviously on two different levels. So that’s why me and Adam ended up splitting.”

Eubank jr takes on James DeGale on February 23rd at the 02 Arena in London.
