Manny Pacquiao Makes Big Claim About Errol Spence

Filipino boxing legend Senator Manny Pacquiao puts final touches on his preparation for his latest fight this weekend at the iconic Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood.

Should he come through what is a tough test in Adrien Broner on January 19th in Las Vegas, many are talking about potential big fights already for the PacMan.

It wasn’t long ago that Manny’s career seem to be in decline after a loss to Jeff Horn but 2018 really sparked the old Pacquiao to come back.

He record his first stoppage win in over nine years last year in Malaysia against Argentinian knockout artist Lucas Matthysse.

This has given Pacquiao an awful lot of momentum and leverage coming into 2019 and he’s been linked with a huge rematch against old rival Floyd Mayweather as a consequence.

However, one left field fight that not many might have expected could be against pound for pound rated Errol Spence Jr.

Spence now boxes under the same adviser as Pacquiao in the form of Al Haymon.

With both men boxing under the Premier Boxing Champions banner making the fight wouldn’t be a problem but would Manny take it?

It appears he would.

Speaking at an open media scrum this week in LA Pacquiao said:

“As long as the (fight is at the) same weight (welterweight — 147lbs).”

On what advantage he has over Spence — he added:

“Power.”

On if he thinks he could beat the much feared Spence:

“Yeah.”

Many believe Pacquiao is no longer in his prime and to take on a young pound for pound lion like a Spence or Terence Crawford could be almost suicidal at this late stage in his career.

Don’t write the Filipino off just yet however, if he were to look good against Adrien Broner stranger things have happened then a Pacquiao vs Spence fight.

Spence himself must first get past Mikey Garcia in March, too.

Again — no formality either.
