Canelo Alvarez Calls Floyd Mayweather Out Of Retirement For Rematch

Canelo Alvarez began his press tour today ahead of December 15th’s fight with Rocky Fielding at Madison Square Garden but he already appears to be looking ahead after the fight with the Liverpool man.

A few years back Canelo took on Floyd Mayweather in a fight that many felt going into it gave Mayweather his most legitimate chance of losing a boxing match ever.

That didn’t materialize however.

Mayweather put on a masterclass and shut out the younger, less experienced Alvarez on points over the distance.

Speaking on Sports Illustrated ahead of his fight with Rocky Fielding, Canelo said he would welcome the rematch with Mayweather ahead of talks that ‘Money’ is returning to boxing:

“Look that’s something that I would love. If he wants to come back and is still motivated to come back, he should do it right. He should do it right and give me the opportunity to have the rematch and demonstrate who is better. I think that in the first fight, experience beat me, as I was very young. I don’t have much more to say other than his experience beat me and that he is a great fighter. I’d love the opportunity to prove myself at this stage of my career. I think it would be very different.”

Mayweather has been linked with a comeback fight in the new year before taking on Manny Pacquiao in a rematch of their own.

Boxing history looks set to be repeating itself all over again.
