Donnie Nietes Reacts To Controversial Draw

The vacant WBO super-flyweight title ended up still being vacant after this weekend’s boxing card ‘Super Fly 3’ in Inglewood, California.

In an all Filipino clash between Donnie Nietes and young contender Palicte the fight was scored a split decision draw which proved controversial with many pundits after the fight on HBO.

Speaking to Villainfy Media through a translator, Nietes gave his reaction after the fight:

“Of course he feels bad. He just accepted the verdict because if that’s what the judges’ saw then he just has to accept it.”

He continued:

“If there has to be a rematch then he’ll take a rematch just to prove he won the fight. If there is a rematch he’ll take the rematch.”

On fighting some of the big names next:

“It depends on what my team want to do. Whatever they want to do. We will talk (after this).”

He concluded despite his age he still feels young:

“I feel like 23 or 24. Thank you so much. All my fans, boxing fans. To all my supporters, Filipino supporters. Thank you so much.”

One gets the feeling that a rematch could be in the works for the new year as fans and media alike appear to be very frustrated with both the fight and the decision.
