What It Might Cost A Promoter To Sign Manny Pacquiao

The race is well and truly on by multiple parties to sign Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao at the moment but whoever lands the superstar boxer knows that it will not come cheap.

And why should it?

Granted, Pacquiao is no longer in his prime and is coming to the end of his career, but he’s still one of the biggest names in the sport and is coming off his first knockout win in over nine years against Lucas Matthysse.

Pacquiao has not only done a lot for his home country over the years but also the sport of boxing as a whole, too.

With him indicating that he’s going to have three more fights in total in the sport, it’s about getting paid at this stage before he finally hangs up the gloves for good towards the back-end of 2019.

But how much is it going to cost to sign him?

Well, promoter Eddie Hearn who is thought to be one of the leading names at the moment in terms of signing him to the new DAZN platform in the US recently revealed that it was ‘not cheap’.

If Pacquiao wasn’t boxing on pay per view for his final three fights you’d have to think over the course of the three fights he’s probably looking for somewhere in the region of $100 million in total for three fights.

While that probably won’t be spread out evenly if he was looking to sign a three fight deal with a promoter, more than likely he’d be looking to build to a big fight next year with the bout in December coming up a stepping stone to a mega fight.

Amir Khan against Pacquiao would certainly generate a lot of money but by all accounts Khan is looking to fight Kell Brook before the end of the year.

So ‘Pacman’ might have to wait until next year for that.

Of course there has been rumors of a Mayweather vs Pacquiao rematch too, which would probably, even at this point, still bring in well over $70 million for Pacquiao in one fight alone.

It’s hard to see it happening in truth though.
