WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder and lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury are poised to fight in one of the biggest fights in boxing before the end of the year.

Its come a little out of left field too. A nice surprise mind you.

Negotiations for the fight appear to have happened very quickly after talks to stage an Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder super fight fell apart.

Fury and Wilder got into the ring with one another this past weekend at Windsor Park in Belfast following Fury’s points win over Francesco Pianeta, capturing the world boxing public’s attention in a face off.

Speaking to the Press Association Sport, Wilder said that it was one final conversation with Fury himself that convinced him to fight him next up:

“Fury contacted me and we had a great conversation. This was Instagram on June 22nd. In that conversation he was apologizing to me, about the situation that had occurred (in not securing the Joshua fight) and he told me, ‘They never wanted to fight you’. That they’d avoid me for as long as possible until (Anthony Joshua’s trainer) Rob McCracken says he’s ready. He said, ‘I promised you I’d fight you – let’s make this happen, it’ll be the biggest fight in the world.'”

There you have it.

The fight appears to have been made very easily and is expected to be announced either today or some other time this week at a formal press conference to confirm date and venue.
