Dominic Breazeale is currently the WBC mandatory for champion Deontay Wilder but has been on the sidelines for sometime now. Dating back to last November when he actually fought on the same bill as Wilder and had a heated confrontation afterwards.

Breazeale expected to have fought Wilder by now but with Wilder negotiating for a fight against Anthony Joshua earlier this year, which would have been a unification which is the only thing that takes precedence over a mandatory, Breazeale was forced to just sit it out.

Still, he doesn’t know exactly when he’ll get his shot, as new talks have emerged that Wilder could take on Tyson Fury before the end of the year.

Speaking to Fight Hype YouTube (hat tip) Breazeale spoke on the current, overly complex situation with the WBC rankings in the heavyweight division, as well as an infamous incident last year where he alleges Wilder and gang of his entourage jumped him in front of his family, hurled insults at his wife and kids and made death threats towards him:

The way things are going at this stage it will likely be next year before Breazeale ever sees his shot at a title.

If Dillian Whyte (WBC number one in the rankings but not mandatory, bizarrely) were to win in the meantime too it will be interesting to see if Breazeale loses his mandatory spot if he continues to not fight.

The whole thing is a bit of a mess to be honest.
