James DeGale Explains Why He Gave Up The IBF Title

James DeGale Confirms Next Fight Date, Card and Venue

Former IBF super-middleweight champion of the world James DeGale has gone on record as to why he has decided to relinquish the belt this week.

32-year-old DeGale had regained the title in his last bout against Caleb Truax earlier this year after losing it to Truax in 2017 in one of the upsets of the year.

DeGale has not boxed since April however and is still looking for his next opponent.

In an official statement on Twitter DeGale expressed the reasoning behind the move:

The super-middleweight division is buzzing at the moment following the first year of the World Boxing Super Series showcasing the division.

Although a tournament DeGale opted not to compete in, surely he’ll be eyeing some of the participants of the tournament.

Notably George Groves.

A rematch between the two would probably be the biggest fight out there for both men at this stage of their careers.

Groves won the first fight via split decision back in 2011. A lot has happened in the seven years for both men mind you.

Both have traveled the world, overcome adversity in their careers and both became world champions.

A showdown between the two towards the end of their careers would no doubt sell out again and likely be a pay per view bout in the UK.
