Boxing fans across the world have been let down this week with the news that an Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder super fight will not be happening next up, and at the earliest, won’t happen until 2019 most likely now.
The WBA have ordered Anthony Joshua to face his mandatory contender next up in the form of Russian Alexander Povetkin after growing tired of the protracted Joshua vs Wilder negotiations.
In recent weeks it looked like a deal was on the verge of being sealed, finally, by both parties, but at the last-minute everything seems to have fallen apart.
WBC heavyweight champion has gone on a tirade against Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn:

Both sides could be further away from a potential fight than ever before after this.
Hugely disappointing stuff all round in what would have been the biggest heavyweight fight for the sport in nearly two decades.
That said, when it does eventually happen, all this controversy will have made the fight that much bigger.
