Joseph Parker’s Coach Reflects On Anthony Joshua Defeat

Joseph Parker's Coach

Kevin Barry looks back on the biggest fight of his career as a coach and his fighter Joseph Parker’s biggest fight of his boxing career thus far.

In the end the Joshua vs Parker fight didn’t live up to the expectations that many had placed on it beforehand.

It turned out to be a more tactical battle than a heavyweight title fight in truth.

Alas, not every fight can be a slug fest of course, but fans have gotten used to entertaining fights involving Joshua since his big win over Wladimir Klitschko.

Ultimately, Parker was to drop a points defeat in Cardiff that night but trainer Kevin Barry while speaking to Sky Sports paid tribute to Joshua’s performance:

“We all know the Klitschko fight was a great fight for him – it was a career-defining fight. But his skills on display in the fight against Joe were the best I have seen from him.”

Indeed, it will be interesting to see if this is a new style of fighting from Joshua going forward.

Or, if the Deontay Wilder fight is made, will he revert back to the entertaining, fan-friendly manner of going to war with his opponents of the past like Klitschko, Carlos Takam and even how he boxed all the way back to the Dillian Whyte fight.

Speaking of Whyte, that’s who Parker takes on next month at the 02 Arena in London.

It will be interesting to see what Parker learned from the Joshua fight and what he brings into the Whyte fight from it.
