Vasyl Lomachenko was mooted to be making a quick return to the ring on August 25th after his recent stoppage win over Jorge Linares but that has now been ruled out.

Lomachenko is coming off the back of a remarkable fight with Linares where he showed great heart to pick himself up off the floor in the contest to come back and force a stoppage over the brilliant Linares at Madison Square Garden.

Talks of possible big fights against Mikey Garcia and Gervonta Davis came next but they’ll have to wait until the end of the year now.

Speaking on Instagram, Lomachenko said:

“Tomorrow I undergo surgery for a torn Labrum in my right shoulder suffered during the 2nd round of my fight against Jorge Linares. I was aware something was not right with my shoulder straight away, but I could not disappoint my fans with excuses. Thank you for the overwhelming kind words I’ve already received. I’ll be back in the ring THIS year.”

It is not clear exactly when this year he’ll be back but don’t expect it to be before November at the earliest, one would imagine.

Get well soon Vasyl Lomachenko.
