HBO To Air First Ever Live Female Boxing Match

HBO this weekend will do something for the first time in their 45 year history as a network when they air live women’s boxing coverage on Saturday night.

Last weekend saw Ireland’s Katie Taylor fight in a unification bout in New York.

However the bout ultimately was not picked up as live coverage on HBO, who instead pushing it to the highlights.

However after such an emphatic display by Taylor it seems HBO have been persuaded to give live women’s boxing a try this weekend.

Female boxing sensation Cecilia Braekhus of Norway who is the only fighter in world boxing that holds every genuine world title at the moment (WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF) will have her bout this weekend against Kali Reis shown on the network.

The bout will be supporting this weekend’s main event headlined by world middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin from the StubHub Center in California.

This weekend was meant to be the big showdown between him and Mexican Canelo Alvarez.

However fans will need to wait until at least September for the fight after Canelo was handed a six month ban for failing a drug test recently.
