Davis Reacts To Mayweather Contacting Top Rank To Make Lomachenko Fight

Gervonta Davis has taken his time in giving his thoughts about his promoter Floyd Mayweather trying to make a fight between him and pound for pound genius Vasyl Lomacehnko.

‘Tank’ returns to action this weekend against Jesus Cuellar for the WBA ‘Super’ super featherweight title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Should he win that however a fight mooted for later in the summer is the Lomachenko showdown.

Davis’ promoter mentioned recently that he contacted Top Rank’s Todd Le Boeuf in a bid to make the fight.

Contrary to that however, Davis doesn’t seem too keen on the fight at all.

Per reporter Michael Benson (hat tip) – ‘Tank’ said of a possible fight with Lomachenko:

“I didn’t know he [Floyd Mayweather] contacted Top Rank. As of right now, I don’t believe that it’s a smart decision. In the future it could be a big fight. It would be a little rushed.”

A PR blunder if anything, perhaps, in that both promoter and fighter (Mayweather and Davis) do not appear to be on the same page at all.

Davis weighed in successfully earlier on ahead of his first fight since losing his title on the scales last year. His fight will be shown live on Showtime this weekend.
