Amir Khan Reveals Reason He Took The Canelo Fight

Amir Khan returns to the ring this weekend for the first time in nearly two years since been knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in his only bout at the middleweight limit.

Moving up to 160lbs while a brave move proved to be too much for Khan in the end – who fell victim to a crushing blow from Alvarez that night.

Since then Khan has seen the recent drugs test fail by Canelo and mentioned recently that he thought Canelo put on a lot of weight for their fight a couple of years ago.

Speaking on the reason he took the fight to Sky Sports, Khan said:

“The reason I took the ‘Canelo’ fight is because I got quite desperate. I really wanted a big super fight and I wanted my name up on the Vegas strip. It’s always been my dream.”

Not long before that fight Khan was famously in the running for a shot at Floyd Mayweather.

A fight that despite looking like it was on the verge of happening for him, never materialized.

Khan’s fight this weekend against Phil Lo Greco in Liverpool will mark Khan’s first fight in the ring since losing to Canelo Alvarez in May of 2015 in Las Vegas.

This weekend’s bout for Khan will come at his usual weight class of 147lbs.
