Promoter Reveals What Joshua vs Wilder Fight Is Worth

An Anthony Joshua vs Wilder fight is worth much more than many expected according to one promoter with knowledge of the situation.

The back and forth negotiations between heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder don’t appear to be going to smoothly according to latest reports.

While one school of thought out there suggests that Joshua’s team want the fight next year because they don’t believe it is big enough yet, and that if they hold out until next year it will be worth much more, another school of thought and the most important one, what the fans want – is for the fight to happen next up.

We’re now in a golden time again for boxing largely down to fans getting the fights they want the last year or so, for the most part, when they want them.

Speaking in a media scrum this week in the US promoter Richard Schaefer revealed that Joshua’s promoter apparently offered Wilder $12.5 million to fight Joshua, ‘low balling’ Wilder according to the Swiss boxing promoter.

However he pointed out that if that was a legitimate offer then it represents in his view a fraction of what was paid to former WBO champion Joseph Parker last month who was estimated to have been given between 31-33% of the fight’s total pot.

Schaefer thinks $12.5 million is essentially 12.5% of the pot meaning the bout is easily worth $100 million.

Logically speaking you’d have to think it’s worth at least that, if not more, when you consider the massive star of Joshua now and the American TV money Wilder also adds to the equation where Parker did not last time out.

All things considering, Wilder was much more impressive in his last fight than Joshua too and still holds the prestigious WBC belt – so his worth has gone up in the bout.
