Golovkin Reacts To Canelo Pulling Out Of Rematch

Golovkin Responds To Canelo

The news the boxing world had been dreading finally came at a press conference yesterday when Canelo Alvarez confirmed he would be withdrawing from May 5th’s upcoming rematch with Gennady Golovkin.

Alvarez will go before the Commission later this month to learn his fate following a failed drug test but attention now turns to who will face Golovkin in Canelo’s place.

Leading contenders are Gary O’Sullivan and Demetrius Andrade but nothing has been made official just yet.

Following the news yesterday that Canelo had pulled out of the rematch, Golovkin posted the following message on social media to update his fans:

The good news is a fight will still be going ahead of course on May 5th.

It’s just a question of who at this point.

Irishman Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan could make a lot of sense as a late replacement given his recent impressive showing on HBO just before Christmas and before that earlier in 2017 on ESPN.

He has continued to build his star in the States on his comeback journey since suffering defeats to Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr a few years ago and his exciting fight style could ensure for a genuine shootout with the big hitting Golovkin.
