Dana White Calls For Irishman To Get Golovkin Fight In Canelo’s Place

Dana White Calls

The race is on to see who gets a shot at middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin on May 5th following previous opponent Canelo Alvarez’ withdrawing from the bout entirely this week.

Alvarez made the decision after recently failing a drugs test which he will go before the NSAC later this month about to learn if he will be handed a suspension or not moving forward in his career.

In the meantime however, team Golovkin have put in a request to the Commission asking for permission to promote a new event.

Most likely on the same date and in the same venue.

The fight is just over a month away which won’t give the replacement fighter a whole pile of notice, but for those that stay ready year round – it will be the opportunity of a life time.

The leading two names appear to be American Demetrius Andrade and Irishman Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan.

In terms of fame and recent momentum, the favorite at this point would most probably be O’Sullivan.

UFC President turned recent boxing promoter Dana White mentioned on Instagram that he wants to see the fight happen:

From a fight style perspective those familiar with O’Sullivan professional career will tell you that he always brings the heat and fights one way for the most part.

By coming forward and throwing leather until his opponent is unable to continue. His exciting highlight reel testament to this thus far in his professional tenure.

Couple this with Golovkin’s appetite for a war – it could generate a real bloodbath of a bout for as long as it lasts.
