Dana White On Whether GGG vs Canelo Will Happen

GGG vs Canelo II happening on May 5th took a turn for the worst yesterday after NSAC Executive Director Bob Bennett issued Canelo Alvarez with an official complaint and set up a hearing for April 18th to decide the Mexican boxer’s fate.

The whole thing could not have come at a worst time ahead of the proposed May 5th fight in Las Vegas.

Although the venue staging the fight, the T-Mobile Arena, have offered refunds to ticket purchasers already, UFC president – turned boxing promoter Dana White is not concerned about the arena doing that.

Speaking to TMZ he said:

“I don’t think it (the ticket refunding) means anything. I think people are still going to go to the fight.”

On whether he thinks it will happen he added:

“Yeah, I think it will. There’s too much money involved.”

This goes against the main school of thought currently out there that it will not.

You’d have to imagine some form of official statement will be fourth coming over the next few days.

Either from Alvarez’s promoter Golden Boy or Golovkin’s K2.

To wait all the way until April 18th’s hearing in terms of deciding on whether at least some sort of boxing event is going to be staged at the venue, seems a bit far-fetched.

That would give travelling fans essentially a little over two weeks from fight night to know whether or not their flights and hotels purchased will have been worth it.

Expect some fight to take place on May 5th mind you, but whether or not it is the one that fans want – remains to be seen.
