Bellew Makes Solid Point About David Price Ahead Of Povetkin Clash

Liverpool heavyweight Price comes into this weekend’s fight with Russian Alexander Povetkin as a significant underdog. Not many are backing him but his old friend and fellow Liverpool heavyweight Tony Bellew has made a point that offers some food for thought.

Povetkin while he possess the more polished boxing skills of the two has struggled in the past with opponents who have distinct height and reach advantages over him.

One fighter on his record in this regard that springs to mind is the only loss of his career to Wladimir Klitschko.

While Price will enjoy a massive size advantage, it will be up to him to figure out a way of using it and keeping Povetkin on the outside.

But then again, that’s not really the David Price game.

Tony Bellew has brought up the following point on the fight:

Perhaps the above is spot on in the sense that if Price is to have any chance, he needs to rough up the smaller man in Povetkin and look to flatten him early in the opening rounds.

Confidence and fatigue have been issues in the past for Price but at 34 now, likely will put everything on the line on Saturday.

He surely knows an opportunity on such a massive card as Joshua vs Parker, likely won’t come around again.

This heightened sense of urgency in his work could make for a fun fight.
