Wilder Reveals The Reason He Came In So Light For Ortiz

Wilder Reveals The Reason

Deontay Wilder weighed in at his third lightest of his professional career against Cuban Luis Ortiz. Something that surprised a lot of people going into the bout.

Most thought that he had simply done so to be built for speed and to out hustle and out work the older, slower Ortiz.

Really though, he didn’t out speed him – more than out fight him in the end.

He simply wanted it more and showed the heart of a true champion to close the show in round 10.

As well as rely on that trusty old power that he is blessed with.

The reason why he came in so light for the fight was a simple one in the end.

Speaking after the fight, the WBC heavyweight champion of the world said:

“I was never tired. I was pacing myself. I don’t make excuses. I could have made excuses. I got a cold in camp and stuff. That’s why I lost so much weight. But I didn’t want to make excuses. I feel when people are making excuses early on they are already looking for a way out.”

Next up Wilder has his eyes on Anthony Joshua in a massive showdown.

Joshua must come through WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker on March 31st later this month in Wales.
