GGG Trainer On Canelo: It Was Disappointing As A Mexican To See Canelo Run

GGG Trainer On Canelo

Gennady Golovkin trainer Abel Sanchez was not impressed with Canelo Alvarez’ fight strategy against his charge last September – and has voiced his candid opinion ahead of the rematch.

It was an exciting fight first time around but one where some mentioned they were surprised at the tactics used by Canelo Alvarez.

Ultimately the fight ended in a controversial draw which has warranted the need for a rematch due to public demand for the bout once again.

A meeting of two of the world’s premier middleweights.

Ahead of the rematch between the two on Cinco De Mayo weekend at the T-Mobile Arena on May 5th, Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez wants a big performance from both men:

“I think that the public has been paying a lot of money and a lot of attention to our sport and they merit a good fight. They need that kind of fight that we havnt had for a while. We have not had that Hagler-Leonard fights. We have not had that Tommy Hearns-Duran fight where there is a dramatic end to it. The public needs it. I think that our sport needs that.”

He added:

“It was disappointing as a Mexican to see somebody (Canelo) run like that for twelve rounds (in the first fight) and not give us the fight that he promised before.”

Sanchez went on to say:

“He was throwing punches just in desperation – just to try to get away.”

Time will tell what fight strategy both guys look to utilise second time around.
