Sadly the sport of boxing has last one of its fighting sons from Britain this morning in some tragic news that has been confirmed regarding boxer Scott Westgarth.
Scott Westgarth, aged 31 from Newcastle, lost his life yesterday after winning a 10 round contest on Saturday in Doncaster.
His promoter Steffy Bull confirmed that he passed away on Sunday.
Sadly even in 2018, despite the numerous steps forward in the protection of combat sports athletes, these tragic nights can still happen in unarmed combat situations between two professional men.
The risk boxers take is so great it’s impossible to put into words.
The world of boxing while typically divided by nature, as it often does in times of trouble, has come together in its unanimous outpouring of love and words of comfort for Sam, his family and his friends:
