Andre Ward Responds To Tony Bellew Comeback Rumours

Former pound for pound star Andre Ward responds to Tony Bellew fight talks that have linked the American with a potential comeback to the sport of boxing later this year.

Ward retired last year following his second win over Sergey Kovalev and cited that he felt he had achieved everything he could in boxing at the time as one of the reasons for calling it a day.

He retired relatively early in his career and has since sought out young fighters like Shakur Stevenson whom he wants to give back to in their careers.

In terms of advise and management to the next generation.

Speaking on the Tony Bellew rumours lately while not denying them, he did not over enthuse about them to FightHype.com:

“I’m chilling man. I’m enjoying my family. Yeah, I’m chilling.”

He added his wife is happy he’s retired overall:

“She’s happy (I retired). I’m at home more than I normally would be. But she misses it. It’s been part of my life. It’s been part of her life for 13 or 14 years.”

Ward is known to be one of the genuine nice guys behind the scenes in the sport.

Without going into specifics, when Ward speaks about giving back to the sport, I for one can tell you he actually means it.

It will be interesting to see if he stays out of the ring entirely from here on out though.

He was a fierce, determined competitor in the ring. As all winners usually are.

That competitive instinct will always be with him.

It’s up to him from here on our in terms of how he channels it in business and anything else he decides to do.
