Not many fighters know this weekend’s two warriors George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr better than former world champion Carl Froch.

Froch is now retired from the sport as an active fighter but still is involved in the boxing as a commentator and pundit on Sky Sports.

He famously defeated Groves on two occasions.

In the first fight however he was pushed incredibly hard by Groves before scoring a controversial late stoppage.

A stoppage where many felt it was premature.

He totally wiped out any doubts however in the rematch when he knocked Groves out cold in front of 80,000 people at Wembley stadium.

Froch has also sparred Chris Eubank Jr a number of times in the past and has an intimate understanding of his fighting mentality when it comes to preparation for his bouts.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Froch said:

“I know Eubank Jr is fitter but he’s not that fit. He doesn’t work for every second of every round, he only works in bursts and then needs a breather. Groves could keep him on the end of his jab, then tag him with a couple of those big rights – with little gloves – that Eubank Jr has never felt before. No, I am not changing my mind and I am still sticking with Eubank Jr winning, but the more I look at this, the more I hear Eubank Jr talk, the more I see him on the pads, in those sharp but short spurts, there is a very real chance Groves could prove me wrong.”

The bout takes place this Saturday at the Manchester Arena with the final weigh-in taking place this Friday at 4pm local time in the UK for the main event.
