Tony Bellew may have shocked the boxing world last year with his surprise win over David Haye back in May at the O2 but it looks as though his run in the heavyweight division is coming to an end, just before it began really.

First Bellew will fight again in the division though on May 5th when he has his rematch David Haye but after that things now look like a return to cruiserweight is in play.

It was thought that if Bellew could get past Haye again that he’d possibly be in line for a fight with Joseph Parker or even Tyson Fury later in 2018.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Bellew said:

“My plan was to beat Haye and go for Joseph Parker, who I believed I could beat. Now I have to look past fighting the heavyweight champion of the world now, the dream isn’t going to come true.”

By all accounts the reason being that he wants to return to cruiserweight – the more natural weight class for him in the pro ranks.

Also though, it could be because he’s made his money now, really, and will do so again against Haye in the rematch and might be thinking to himself at this stage of the game, what’s left to do?

But don’t count on him retiring after the Haye fight or not fighting again at heavyweight again either, for that matter.

This is boxing where if the price is right, everything is for sale and up for haggling.
