Frank Bruno Vouches For Lennox Lewis In Wilder vs Tyson Debate

Former heavyweight champion of the world Frank Bruno is the latest well-known figure in the boxing world to weigh-in on what has now become a very public debate about fighters past and present.

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder made headlines this past weekend when he said that he would beat a prime Mike Tyson who was at the peak of his powers back in 1986.

Tyson, a formidable opponent for anyone in his golden years, boxing fans have been almost unanimous in their condemnation of Wilder’s remarks.

Fair play to Wilder for getting out there promoting himself but to bring a former boxing great into the debate seems premature.

Lennox Lewis certainly thinks so, who said on Twitter:

“I just heard @BronzeBomber said he would destroy a young @MikeTyson. My thoughts are that it’s easy to talk until u actually get in the ring. I like Wilder but he’s never been in there with someone that ferocious who truly wants to break his ribs with every punch. I don’t see it!”

His old rival Frank Bruno has backed up his remark up tonight, saying himself on Twitter in reply to Lewis above:

“Very easy to talk…easy to make a statement when you know it’s impossible to do.”

This debate looks like it will rumble on for a while.

Wilder certainly got some publicity with this which you have to hand it to him for. As he looks to land a big fight later this year against boxing star Anthony Joshua.
