Nightclub Entrepreneur Turned Pro Boxer Nearly In Top 10 World Rankings

A nightclub entrepreneur from the UK who started a professional boxing career as a hobby finds himself now in contention with some of the world’s best in his division.

Boxing rankings are always a bone of contention in truth.

In a sport where logic is often bereft of existence, as a reporter covering boxing over the years you tend to grow used to the nutty happenings and antics that go hand in hand with the professional fight game.

Besides the WBA stripping former champion Guillermo Rigondeaux of his belt this week, there were a number of other eyebrow raisers in their January addition of their rankings.

Number 11 Joe Fournier now finds himself just literally just behind former world champion Jean Pascal, in surprising news that will no doubt will have delighthed the UK club owner.

The 34-year-old has racked up 8 stoppages inside 8 wins since turning pro back in 2015 and conceivably, could share the ring with the likes of a Juergen Braehmer or Jean Pascal in the not too distant future if he keeps winning.

The WBA have said they will continue to reduce the number of belts that they have in 2018 to avoid further confusion for fans and fighters alike.

It will be interesting to see where Fournier finds himself next should he win again and what calibre of opposition he’ll have to face next up.
