Watch: Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux Fight Day Weigh-In (Results)

The Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux fight day weigh in produced some interesting results ahead of their much anticipated bout.

The pair are in freezing cold New York at the moment making final preparations ahead of their world title bout tonight at Madison Square Garden.

A lot has been made about the weight tonight in that challenger for Lomachenko’s WBO super-featherweight world title, Guillermo Rigondeaux – is moving up an entire two weight divisions to fight for the strap.

If recent modern boxing history is anything to go by moving up two weight classes all at once seldom, if ever, ends in success for a boxer at the highest level.

Recent examples would be Kell Brook moving from welterweight up to middleweight to challenge Gennady Golovkin and Amir Khan moving from welterweight up to middleweight to face Mexico’s Canelo Alvarez.

Both ended in knockout defeats. Relatively quickly too.

But Guillermo Rigondeaux is not Amir Khan or Kell Brook, of course.

Both he and the champion weighed into as follows on fight day earlier on:

  • Lomachenko 137.4lbs
  • Rigondeaux 130lbs

Not as much weight difference as some might have thought, in the end.

Here they both are weighing in earlier today via the Boxeo Cubano YouTube channel (hat tip):
