Miguel Cotto Retires From Boxing Following Ali Defeat

The news is official now as Miguel Cotto retires from boxing following what proved to be the final fight of his career.

The Puerto Rican boxer suffered a unanimous points defeat this past weekend to the excellent Sadam Ali in what proved to be a fun fight on the whole.

It wasn’t the win Cotto wanted to go out on, but nonetheless, he still went out on his own terms after a long, successful career – with money in the bank and all his faculties intact.

After the fight he confirmed that it was definitely his final fight as an active boxer and said:

“I want to be happy in my home and enjoy my family.”

Respect has been pouring in for his career since the news came and no doubt whatever he chooses to do next he’ll be a success at.

A classic boxer-puncher who could fight in the trenches when he had to, but also had the innate ability to utilize ever evolving ring craft and boxing IQ throughout his career, on both the back and front foot when he had to.

Add into this pugilistic equation a massive heart and terrific engine in all his championship fights, its little wonder that he left such a last impression on so many within the fight fraternity.
